Are you planning your trip and have heard about eSIM but still have questions about activation, usage, or installation? We've compiled these and many other questions in our eSIM Guide for you.
It seems that the default line for calls and SMS has likely been switched to the BuddySIM eSIM. Since BuddySIM doesn't provide a phone number, you need to ensure that your primary SIM card is selected for calls and SMS. Check the settings on your smartphone and make sure that your primary SIM card is enabled for these functions. Please note that additional charges may apply through your mobile contract if you use your primary SIM card for calls and SMS while abroad.
After your trip, you can simply deactivate the eSIM but leave it installed on your smartphone. For your next trip, you can easily reactivate it by adding more credit. This way, you save yourself from reinstalling it and are ready to go immediately.
Please never delete your eSIM without first contacting our support team. Transferring credit or reissuing the QR code is only possible if the eSIM has not yet been activated. After activation, recovery or reissuance is no longer possible. Contact our support team for further assistance.
If your phone has been stolen or broken, please contact our support team. Transferring credit to a new phone is only possible if the eSIM has not yet been activated. After activation, the eSIM can no longer be transferred to another device.
BuddySIM only offers mobile-data eSIMs, so there is no phone number. Our eSIMs are solely intended for mobile data use while traveling. However, you can easily make calls using WhatsApp or other VoIP services.
No worries, if your data allowance runs out, nothing else happens. You won't incur any additional or unexpected charges through your BuddySIM eSIM. You'll simply lose internet access until you purchase or top up more data.
The error message likely looks like the one shown in the image below and says that the eSIM could not be activated. In this case, you need to remove "https://" and the "/" at the end when entering it manually. After that, you can proceed with the activation.
There are several ways to check if your eSIM is active. Open the settings on your smartphone. Navigate to "Cellular" or "Connections," depending on your operating system. Here, you'll see a list of active SIM cards, both physical and eSIMs. On Android, it's straightforward, as the cards are labeled as eSIM 1 and SIM 1. On iOS, you'll need to identify which SIM card is your eSIM. This is usually easy: the eSIM will be displayed without a phone number under its name, while a physical SIM card will be listed with its associated phone number. The eSIM without a phone number should be the one used for mobile data.
The iPhone 16 is expected to be released in September 2024. After Apple transitioned to eSIM-only in the U.S. with the iPhone 14, our experts predict that EU models will also come in an eSIM-only version. This means the iPhone 16 will indeed support eSIM. With the introduction of the Universal Link for iOS 17.4 and newer, which allows users to easily install eSIM without a QR code scan or manual input, Apple has already taken a supportive step towards eSIM technology.

The eSIM compatibility of an Android device is determined by the manufacturer’s integration of eSIM technology. For this reason, we provide a list of devices that support eSIM to make verification easier: buddysim.com/check. However, in some situations, a device listed as eSIM-capable may not actually support the technology. Android, as an open-source operating system, allows any device and network provider to make modifications. Therefore, certain models may exist in specific countries or regions that do not offer eSIM support. It’s also possible that the provider from whom you purchased your device has not enabled the eSIM feature.
The required data allowance is very individual and depends on the duration of your trip and the use of apps, such as social media and map applications.
